Fireside Friday: Reaching Down or Getting Down

The word “charity” has taken on a condescending tone in today’s society. It suggests that we help those who are, well, less important than ourselves. But that’s not what Christ did. The King of Glory didn’t just reach down, He got down. And then He laid down His life in order to “raise the poor from the dust” and to lift “the beggar from the ash heap, to set them among princes and make them inherit the throne of glory” (1 Sam 2:8). Do we reach down or get down?
