Touched by Grace

In Luke 5:12–16, we read of a man suffering from leprosy who comes to Jesus in desperation, humbly pleading, “Lord, if you are willing, you can make me clean.” Jesus responds with compassion, reaching out to touch the man and declaring, “I am willing; be cleansed.” Immediately, the leprosy leaves him, and his life is transformed.

In this message, Norm Spohr explores the deeper spiritual lessons in this remarkable encounter. The leper’s suffering extended far beyond his physical condition. He endured isolation, rejection, loneliness, and the loss of human companionship. Yet Jesus was willing to reach out to someone whom society had cast aside, demonstrating the compassion and love of God.

The account also illustrates our own spiritual condition. Just as the leper needed cleansing, we are all sinners in need of forgiveness and restoration. Through Jesus Christ, we can be cleansed from our sin and given new life. As 1 John 1:9 reminds us, God is faithful and just to forgive our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Norm also challenges believers to follow Christ’s example by reaching out to broken, hurting, and needy people with His love. The message concludes by considering Jesus’ habit of withdrawing to pray, reminding us that communion with the Father must remain a priority in our lives.
