In this message from Philippians 4:1–9, George Fehr challenges us to consider an important question: What are you focused on? Drawing from Paul’s instructions to the believers in Philippi, he identifies 7 practical exhortations for living a Christ-centred life in a world filled with trouble, anxiety, and conflict.
We are encouraged to (1) stand firm in the Lord, (2) pursue unity with fellow believers, (3) rejoice in the Lord always, and (4) demonstrate gentleness toward others. George emphasizes the importance of setting aside pride and selfishness, cultivating Christlike humility, and working together in love within the church. He also reminds us to (5) bring our worries to God through prayer and thanksgiving, trusting Him to guard our hearts and minds with His peace.
Finally, we are challenged to (6) direct our thoughts toward what is true, honourable, just, pure, lovely, and praiseworthy, allowing the character of Christ to shape our attitudes and actions. Rather than dwelling on our problems, the shortcomings of others, or ourselves, we are called to (7) make Christ the focus of our lives.
The message concludes with a reminder that when we are prayerful in everything, thankful in all circumstances, and occupied with the things of God, we can experience both the peace of God and the presence of the God of peace.
